Beginning of the legendary model can be considered 2006 when the car was presented to the public. The designation Q7 meant belonging to a completely new lineup of cars from the German brand. It is noteworthy that not only the technical characteristics of the Audi Q7 distinguished the model among the Audi product lineup. The car was also in the price category between the Q6 and Q8. There was a whole saga with this name that led to a full-fledged legal process with Infiniti. The competitor filed a lawsuit over the use of the letter “Q,” explaining that only they could use this letter to designate a model range since they already had a lineup of SUVs under that index. But the matter was resolved by a global agreement when Audi agreed not to use this index anymore and decided to leave existing models as they were. But that’s all just history.
It can be said right away that each generation of the Audi Q7 has significant differences, although all these cars are an excellent choice for any car enthusiast. The car is equipped with modern electronics, high-quality sound, a set of safety airbags, a soft multi-link suspension, combined with the legendary Quattro, and a comfortable, spacious interior. The body of the model is made in a wagon layout, which is perhaps one of the few factors that united all generations. Read about their technical parameters below.

Logically, the year of production of the first generation Q7 coincides with the year the car appeared – 2006. The car was first presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show. This is probably the general description of the Audi Q7 we can conclude with.

Audi Q7 2nd generation (2015 – 2019)
When in 2015 the public in Detroit first saw the updated Audi Q7 2nd generation, everyone immediately noticed significant changes in design. Now the car’s exterior has become more streamlined, sleek, and sporty. The new Audi Q7 received angular, and at the same time, more aggressive lighting. The horizontal radiator fins made the car look more modern and aggressive. Naturally, the bumper was also redesigned. The car lost some weight, gaining more pronounced wheel arches. The optics are equipped with either xenon or LEDs, depending on the customer’s preference. But it also became much more powerful.
Technical specifications of Audi Q7 2nd generation in detail
Technical specifications of Audi Q7 2nd generation do differ significantly from its predecessor. The car has become smaller:

- Width – 1970 mm;
- Height – 1740 mm;
- Ground clearance (adjustable) – 145 – 235 mm;
- Wheelbase – 2990 mm.
The updated Audi Q7 2nd generation received an air suspension, making it even softer and more comfortable, and it also allows you to adjust the ground clearance with the push of a button. The car still has 5 seats in the cabin, but now we can mention the trunk volume – 890 liters . But there’s a clarification here – the third row of seats can “steal” space in the trunk. Accordingly, there will be room for 3 more passengers, but the trunk volume will be reduced to only 290 liters. If you need to transport bulky cargo, you can fold the second and third rows of seats and get a 2-cubic-meter luggage compartment.
Changes were not only in dimensions; the weight also decreased by 325 kg. The lighter weight was achieved through aluminum fenders and hood. The body was also lightened by using the hot forming technology.
The car was equipped with everything to make your trips comfortable, even if you have to drive all day long. Three-zone climate control, seats with ventilation and massage, seat heating, a multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters, and a multimedia system with a seven-inch screen will do their job.
The engines of the Audi Q7 2nd generation also received updates, and now the lineup looks like this:

A special feature of the updated Audi Q7 is the cross-stability stabilization system that operates on 48-volt power. However, it should be noted that this option is only available on the sports version of the Q7.
The car’s chassis has also undergone significant improvements. Now, not only the front wheels steer, but the rear wheels also assist in turning, making the car more maneuverable than ever.
The transmission is based on an 8-speed automatic gearbox complemented by the legendary Quattro system. Engine details are listed in the table. But all engines have an electric “add-on.” The mild hybrid 48-volt system saves 0.7 liters of fuel per 100 km but takes up 25 liters of space in the luggage compartment.
